You may think that it would be very difficult to make beer. It seems like there would be a lot of complicated mixtures and ingredients used to make this product just right. It’s true that it does take quite a bit of time and the right amount of ingredients to make beer, but there are actually only four ingredients used in making beer.
The first ingredient is water. However it has to be completely bacteria free, so that the other ingredient’s flavors can be released.
The second ingredient is barley. It is important because it can be preserved a long time after it is gathered. The barley is what gives the beer its color and taste.
Hops is the third ingredient used in making beer. This is a male or female flower that comes from a climbing plant. Only the male Hops are used for making beer, and this is the ingredient that gives beer its signature bitterness.
The fourth and final ingredient is yeast, which changes the sugars in the mix into alcohol and carbon dioxide. There are a few different types of yeast used, depending on the beer.
Sometimes there are different spices and herbs that are added to beer as well. Every beer has a different taste, and that can be determined by what extra spices or herbs have been added to that particular mixture.
Of course, you can’t just throw all these ingredients into a pot and hope it comes out right. As I said earlier, first the barley must be turned into malt. In order to do this, the barley must be left in water to germinate for about four to six days, and then left in hot air to dry for awhile more.
Next the mixture has to go through many boiling and staining processes before it can be left to germinate. There are also three germinating stages.
Lastly, after the maker has added his or her own personal touch to the beer, it’s left to mature and settle anywhere from a few weeks to many months before it is ready to be sold and drunk.
